This week’s episode features a cartoonist! I was so excited to interview the first ever cartoonist to appear on this podcast: Eva Lacy is the animator behind Critterosity, a series of characters made and sold to appease the youth in all of us. I was surprised to find out that Patreon takes up the majority of Lacy’s business and the girl has it figured out. We dive in to all things art memberships as I try to dissect how exactly Lacy is doing it. For anyone unfamiliar with Patreon, it is a membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid. You simply send your patrons (fans, customers, etc.) to that platform and they can sign up for whatever pricing tier you have set up to easily support your art journey. Sounds pretty great, right?! I thought so too. I personally know very little about that platform so, spoiler alert, I asked Lacy if I could license her full Patreon course explaining exactly how she does business through it, and she said, “Yes!” Her course is currently inside the Artist Academy Advanced by the time you’re hearing this episode, so if you’re a student just go to the Contributing Artists section of the Academy website and enjoy! If you’re not in the Academy just yet, don’t worry, Lacy still gives lots of great tips about Patreon and animation throughout this episode. Let me know what you think about this week’s episode with Eva Lacy.
