259. Perfecting Your Pitch to Land More Mural Gigs with Derrik Diza
Not long ago, I came across one of Derrik’s posts in a Facebook group talking about how he’s getting new business and advising other artists on how they can too. Another business-minded artist looking to share industry “secrets” in order to help others make more money with a paintbrush? Hello! I had to introduce myself and get him on the podcast.
Derrik and I talked on the phone about business for an hour prior to this conversation, then another hour after we concluded the interview. Basically, we both love the topics of murals+money+mentorship, and it’s so motivating for me to chat about it with someone else as interested in it as I am.
I think you’ll find this chat motivating because Derrik breaks down the process of pitching and sets realistic expectations for results. This is the non-sexy side of running an art business but as he’s proved in his own business, if you put in the work the results will follow.
Here’s the pitch rundown:
- Personalize (don’t sound like a robot)
- Give Credibility (list companies you’ve worked with in the past)
- Mural Showcase (share impressive images of your work)
- The Process (what does working with you entail?)
- Set Expectations (share what the starting cost would be)
For a better explanation and examples of this process, listen to this week’s episode all about pitching with Derrik Diza.
